Feline Enrichment

Are you a potential new cat owner? Or do you just love your cat and want to provide the best for them? When it comes to your cats enrichment there are many choices. In this page we will discuss what cat toys are safe for your cat and which ones will leave them the most satisfied.

Fishing Rod - Great fun especially for younger & more active cats. This requires you being present with your cat and moving the toy in a prey like manner. Some of these can break off and leave the string exposed. Check regularly for wear and tear.
Electric moving toys - Not ideal as these are often made of hard plastics. Never leave your cat unsupervised.
Fabric mice - Basic toy but some cats like to bat these around. Check regularly for wear and tear. Easy to become lost under the sofa.
Cat Nip - Use sparingly. This can lead to hypersensitivity and excitement or relaxation. I would not class this as a toy as such because it is hard to know if the cat is playing and having fun or is acting that was because of the cat-nip.
Springs / Pipe Cleaners - Depending on how these are produced there may be wire inside which may hurt your cat. I would avoid these.
Foil / Crinkle balls / Plastic Balls - The light material make these so fun for cats to bat them around. Additionally I think the sounds adds to the excitement. Check wear and tear. If you have a large cat ensure they will not be able to swallow them.
Fabric Balls and PomPoms - same as above except different sounds. Be careful with the fabric item as the cats may ingest the material. Ensure they are well made before giving them to your cat.
Puzzle Toys - Hard plastic puzzles which has to be set up manually. Good for cats which prefer food to toys. You can get soft plastic slow feeder puzzles from our website which is safer for the cats teeth and can combat obesity. See our range of puzzle and flow feeders by clicking here:

String - avoid at all costs. String although may be exciting to chase for your cat can easily fray and be ingested leading to health problems.
Lazer Pens or Pointers - These can get your cats running around a lot and can entice the most stubborn of cats. However this toy may cause more harm than good. A cats natural behaviour is to hunt, catch and kill. But with this toy there is nothing to grab so they can never catch it. It would be incredibly frustrating so I would recommend to avoid these.
